The health and safety of our community comes first. After close monitoring of the Ebola outbreak in Uganda — and following the World Health Organization's declaration of a public health emergency of international concern on 16 May 2026 — we have decided to move FAS BioCamp 2026 from an in-person gathering to a fully virtual program.
What has changed
BioCamp 2026 was planned as an in-person intensive in Uganda. With confirmed Ebola cases reported across the Kampala Metropolitan Area, bringing fellows and faculty together in one location is no longer the responsible choice. The camp will now run virtually over its original dates, June 14–27, 2026.
What stays the same
The mission and the substance of BioCamp do not change. Over two weeks, fellows will still learn to build a biotech company alongside leading scientists, venture investors, and biotech founders — getting feedback on their ideas through both a science and a business lens, engaging with frontier biotech, and building toward proof-of-concept. Top teams still advance to the eight-month fellowship.
Why we made this decision
This outbreak, caused by the Bundibugyo ebolavirus, has been declared a public health emergency of international concern. Uganda's health authorities and the WHO have mounted a strong, well-coordinated response, and we are grateful to the frontline health workers leading it. Following their guidance, we are choosing the path that best protects our fellows, our faculty, and the communities they would otherwise travel through and from.
For selected fellows
If you have been selected for BioCamp 2026, you will receive detailed instructions by email on how the virtual program will run — including the schedule, the platforms we will use, and how the sandbox lab and mentorship components translate online. Please watch your inbox, and reach out to the FAS team with any questions or concerns.
We remain committed to building the next generation of African biotech founders — and to doing it safely. Thank you for your understanding, your flexibility, and your continued commitment. We look forward to seeing you online in June.
